On the occasion of the Saveurs & Savoirs Festival, to be held in Uzès from October 9 to 12, 2025, the Boutique Hôtel Entraigues** will host a unique event: a "Wine & Fragrance" workshop and conference, led by perfumer and trainer Carole André.
Under the hotel's majestic vaulted ceilings, discover the subtle links between taste and smell, two intimately linked senses that shape our emotions and enrich our gastronomic and olfactory experiences.
During these workshops, Carole André will propose a playful and educational exploration where perfumery and gastronomy meet.
To better understand the spirit of this workshop, here are a few extracts from an interview with Carole André:
Boutique Hôtel Entraigues : Hello Carole, thank you for joining us. To begin with, can you tell us a little about your background?
Carole André: With pleasure. I'm a chemist by training, and a graduate of ISIPCA in Versailles, a school specializing in perfumes and aromas. I worked for many years in the formulation of perfumes and cosmetics, and then founded my own company, Iris Consulting, to pass on my passion for scents and the sensory.
Boutique Hôtel Entraigues : You're offering an original workshop as part of the Saveurs et Savoirs festival in Uzès. What does it involve?
Carole André: It's a workshop that links two worlds: wine and perfume. Together, we'll explore how our noses perceive odors, and show the similarities between tasting wine and smelling perfume.
Boutique Hôtel Entraigues : How will this workshop be run?
Carole André: First, I'll introduce the major olfactory families. Then we'll talk about French vineyards and the influence of soil, climate and country on grapes. Then we'll get down to the nitty-gritty: an olfactory classification game, the discovery of raw materials used in perfumery, and finally the tasting of three wines - a red, a white and a rosé.
Boutique Hôtel Entraigues : What will participants gain from this experience?
Carole André: They will learn to use their noses more effectively, to recognize and name aromas. But also to build bridges between two sensory worlds. It's a fun, educational and convivial experience. Many leave with a new way of appreciating a perfume... or a glass of wine.

At the same time, olfactory designer Claire Merryl will be giving a talk at theUzès Tourist Office on Saturday October 11 at 4pm. She will explain how the same raw material can offer different sensory experiences, depending on whether it is perceived by taste or smell.
