Boutique hôtel Entraigues: Hello Carole, thank you for being with us. To begin with, could you tell us a bit about your background?
Carole André: With pleasure. I am a chemist by training, a graduate of ISIPCA in Versailles, a school specializing in perfumes and flavors. I worked for many years in the formulation of perfumes and cosmetics, then I founded my company, Iris Consulting, to share my passion for scents and the sensory world.
Boutique hôtel Entraigues: You are offering a unique workshop as part of the Saveurs et Savoirs festival in Uzès. What is it all about?
Carole André: It is a workshop that connects two worlds: wine and perfume. Together, we will explore how our nose perceives scents, and highlight the commonalities between wine tasting and perfume olfaction.
Boutique hôtel Entraigues: Practically speaking, how will this workshop unfold?
Carole André: First, I will present the major olfactory families. Then, we will discuss French vineyards and the influence of soil, climate, and geography on the grapes. Next comes the practical part: an olfactory classification game, the discovery of raw materials used in perfumery, and finally the tasting of three wines — a red, a white, and a rosé.

Carole André: They will learn how to use their nose better, to recognize and name aromas. But also how to build bridges between two sensory worlds. It is a fun, educational, and friendly experience. Many leave with a fresh way of appreciating a perfume... or a glass of wine.

In parallel, Claire Merryl, olfactory designer, will give a conference at the Uzès Tourist Office on Saturday, October 11 at 4:00 PM. She will explain how the exact same raw material can offer different sensory experiences depending on whether it is perceived through taste or smell.
